You’ll run the full gamut of trains while exploring this corner of Southeast Asia, the former colonial territory of French Indochina. From rather rickety bamboo trolleys to Cambodian rattlers, to rocketing, shiny-new fast trains, you’ll have the chance to connect all the dots – and rice paddies – by rail. Highlights include the site of Angkor Wat, the ancient city of Luang Prabang and ‘mingling’ with rescued elephants.

Good things come in threes, and that would be our Baltic trio! Chug your way from north to south through this under-discovered corner of northeastern Europe – Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. You’ll essentially become part of history, getting to experience the national railways of ‘now’, before the new Rail Baltica infrastructure appears (expected in 2030) – so you’ll get around on commuter, inter-city and heritage railways. Highlights include the three UNESCO-protected capital cities and getting off-the-map to meet Lithuania's Karaim community, and Estonia’s Voro and Seto people.

Kick off in central Europe and wind up in Asia’s doorway! You’ll make your way through Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey, absorbing these old crossroads of culture and picking up some new cuisine and local tidbits as you go. Enjoy the railways, but do know we will divert you from time to time, as there are some must-see places that the trains can’t get to. A real eye-opener of a trip as many of the destinations are far less talked about than their western-European counterparts.

Our original, custom-made itinerary of the Balkans by Rail launched in 2023 and was an instant hit! It’s probably not such a surprise, considering it’s an epic 24-day trip that has you travelling through seven countries on a multicultural, multilingual, multigeographic journey – no doubt a journey of a lifetime. As much of the trip as we could possibly manage will be via rail.
